Reroofing the historic Welsh coaching inn required a meticulous blend of conservation and craftsmanship: every slate was carefully sourced from reclaimed stocks to match the original patina and coursing, while traditional leadwork and lime-based bedding were employed to ensure breathability and long-term performance. Our team surveyed the existing timber, repaired and where necessary replaced beams with seasoned oak to preserve structural integrity, and reinstated original ridge and eaves details using hand-cut materials to maintain the building’s vernacular character. The result is a sympathetic restoration that preserves the inn’s historic appearance, improves weatherproofing and longevity, and honours local roofing traditions through the use of reclaimed materials and time-honoured techniques.
