Listed Country Property
Essential slate and lead repairs were completed to this handsome period property on the Welsh border. Our team carefully replaced slipped and cracked slates, reinstating the roof’s original appearance while using a combination of reclaimed and matching new slates to preserve the property’s character and patina. Faulty mortar bedding was raked out and re-pointed in breathable lime mortar to maintain historic breathability, prevent future water ingress and protect vulnerable masonry joints.
Leadwork was renewed where flashings and abutments had failed. We installed code-compliant lead apron and step flashings around chimneys and dormers, and formed a new lead valley where corrosion had caused leaks. All leadwork was dressed and soldered to traditional standards, with discreet expansion joints to allow for thermal movement, reduce stress and prolong service life.
Works included clearing and resetting ridge tiles, renewing underfelt where required, and checking and repairing timber sarking and battens that were found to be damp or decayed. Gutters and downpipes were inspected, cleared and adjusted to ensure correct drainage and prevent future water damage.
The result is a watertight, sympathetic repair that protects the building fabric while retaining the period aesthetic of the property. We provided a full condition report and a written guarantee on all workmanship. Call Heritage Roofing Contractors Ltd for a free roof quotation on period properties and traditional roofing repairs.
